Highly Skilled Migration Visa (Tier 1)

The Highly Skilled Worker visa enables skilled individuals to migrate to the United Kingdom. Its aim is to provide an individual migration route for highly skilled workers with the necessary skills and experience to compete in the global economy. A confirmed offer of employment is not needed for this application. Eligibility for this visa is assessed through a points-based system, with points scored in the following areas:

• Educational qualifications
• Work experience
• Past earnings
• Age
• English language ability
• Maintenance funds

A minimum score of 75 is needed for main attributes and another 20 points need to be scored for English language ability and maintenance funds to total a minimum eligibility score of 95.

Initially you will be given a three year visa. After this period you can apply for an extension for a further two years. At the completion of five years in the UK, you will then be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain. After one further year, you will be eligible for a British passport.
