Fiancé Visa
What is a Fiancé / Marriage visa?
Within the British Immigration rules and regulations (Immigration Act 1971 section
290), a person has a claim to a Fiancé/Marriage visa if s/he can prove
the following:
-
S/he is seeking leave to enter the UK for marriage to a person present and
settled in the UK
-
S/he is not marrying for the primary purpose of obtaining admission to the
UK
-
The parties to marry have met
-
The two parties intend to live permanently with each other after the marriage
AND
-
Will be able to accommodate themselves and any dependants adequately without resources to public funds
-
S/he holds a valid UK entry clearance
Note that if you do not fall within these rules, you cannot
apply for this visa. Since you have decided to migrate to the UK, possibly permanently,
the British Immigration Service has every intention to ensure that you are eligible
and to confirm you have sufficient funds to support yourself and that your intention
is to gain employment. Ultimately, the objective is to show that you will be
conducive to the public good.
How long is the Fiancé/Marriage visa valid?
The Fiancé/Marriage visa is issued for a six-month period. Therefore,
you and your partner would have to get married within this six-month period.
The visa does not allow you to be employed in the UK and it is only a single
entry visa, thus you cannot travel in and out of the UK on this visa. Once you
have married your partner, you will need to apply for a settlement visa in the
UK
