What business categories exist for New Zealand?
There are three categories of business visas that can be processed outside of New Zealand:
  • Investor
  • Long Term Business
  • Employees of Businesses relocating to NZ
The Basics:

Investor:

This visa is awarded based on a points system analysing your age, business experience and investment funds. Minimum requirements are that you be at least 25 and preferably less than 49 with at least 2 years business experience and funds of at least NZ$1, 000, 000. The investment must be for two (2) years in New Zealand.

Long Term Business:

This is a temporary entry, which should lead to residence under the Entrepreneur Category (applied for in New Zealand after having a two-year business in NZ). Basic requirements for this are a business plan, investment capital, and sufficient funds to maintain the applicant and dependents.

Employees of Businesses Relocating to New Zealand:

If the employees do not qualify under other categories, s/he may be granted residence on a case-by-case basis. This can lead to residence. The employee must be key to the relocation and operation of the business. The applicant must be employed for 24 months following the relocation.
