Who is eligible for a Retirement Visa?
Under Australian Immigration law, this visa is for persons who:

Wish to retire in Australia

Have no dependents (other than a spouse, if any); and are able to be self-supporting in Australia without cost to Australia's social and welfare services.

Are 55 years old (spouse can be of any age)

Possess the funds required
What funds are required?
Evidence of capital for transfer of at least:

AUS$650,000 or $600,000 if you have a non-dependent child living permanently in Australia

AUS$200,000 and a pension or other capital for investment to provide an annual income of over AUS$45,000

AUS$180,000 and a pension or other capital for investment and provide an annual income of over AUS$42,000 (if you have a non-dependent child living permanently in Australia).
Do I need Medical Insurance?
Yes, after all criteria has been satisfied, you and your spouse (if any) will be required to take out comprehensive medical insurance with an Australian provider before your visa can be granted. Please note that holders of this visa are ineligible fro Medicare and social security benefits.
How long is the visa valid for?
The visa is issued for four (4) years and can be extended if all criteria are met. |
